AASA

Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment (AASA) is the new statewide achievement test for Arizona 3rd–12th-grade students. This test replaces the AzM2 Assessment. The AASA is based on the new learning standards and provides teachers, students, and parents with data regarding student readiness for college and career following their high school graduation.

Beginning in the third grade, all Arizona public school students take AASA. Students take an English language arts and mathematics assessment at their respective grade levels. We publish assessment guidelines and practice tests in the fall of every school year.

Please check the ADE website for ongoing updates regarding the state assessment. Only eligible students with significant cognitive disabilities will participate in other alternate achievement tests.

AZELLA

The Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) is a standards-based assessment that meets both state and federal requirements to measure students’ English language proficiency. AZELLA is used for both placement and reassessment purposes.

Students identified as second language learners on the Home Language Survey take the AZELLA placement test; the students’ proficiency scores determine appropriate placement for instruction.

Students in an English language learner program will also take the AZELLA reassessment once yearly until they achieve proficiency. We monitor students who have scored proficient on the AZELLA for two years to help ensure their success in a mainstream classroom.

AZSCI

All Arizona public schools administer the Arizona Science Assessment (AzSCI) to fifth, eighth, and 11th-grade students.

You will find more information regarding AzSCI on the ADE website.
