2019 Employee Appreciation Program

Photos of Employee Appreciation programOn May 9, 2019, the Fowler Elementary School District Governing Board recognized and congratulated employees for their years of service. The governing board had the honor of recognizing two teachers, Alyce Layden and Annette Markley, for 35 years of service to the students of our school district. Cindy Bradley, academic services director, received recognition for her 25 years of service. There were seven employees with 20 years of service. Nine employees received recognition for 15 years of service. There were 15 employees with 10 years of service. 39 employees received recognition for five years of service. Each of these employees received a certificate and a service pin.

2019 Fowler Elementary School District Retirees

Fowler Elementary School District Governing Board recognized and thanked the 2019 retirees. The 2019 retirees are: Nancy Dillard, Tuscano and Sun Canyon Elementary; Gayle Hastings, Sunridge Elementary Head Start; Maria Sanchez, district office; Valerie Smith, Fowler Elementary; and Jill Borge, Sun Canyon Elementary. We wish our 2019 retirees well in their future endeavors.

2019 Employees of the Year

View more photos of the 2019 Employees of the Year award winnersThe employee appreciation event took place on Thursday, May 9, and five employees were recognized as employees of the year in different categories. Leticia Valenzuela, transportation coordinator, was named administrator of the Year. Several individuals in the Transportation Department attended the event to demonstrate their support. Elizabeth Hernandez, Western Valley Child Care Head Start teacher, was named preschool teacher of the year. Three employees were recognized as classified employees of the year: Eva Escoto, Western Valley Schools; Veronica Vasquez, Child Care Center; and Edel Herrera, Sun Canyon Elementary School. Congratulations to these employees of the year for their dedication and commitment to our school district and students.

We recognized the teachers and presented them with plaques at the annual Westside Impact Teacher of the Year Breakfast at Grand Canyon University on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. 2015 Rodel Exemplary Teachers Finalist—Mrs. Sylvia Miller

Sylvia Miller

We wish to recognize Mrs. Sylvia Miller, a finalist in the search for 2015 Rodel Exemplary Teachers. Mrs. Miller serves as the fifth grade lead for a team of four teachers at Western Valley Elementary School. She serves as the 21st CCLC Outreach specialist, where she strategically engages families and outside organizations and businesses in supporting out-of-school programs. She has a strong background in social work, which is an asset to our community. In addition, she is a Literacy Lead for her campus, providing professional development for our teachers in the area of writing. Mrs. Miller is a member of the Academic Parent Teacher Team (APTT) launch team, providing family engagement training to teachers. She possesses commendable leadership and communication skills, which enhances teamwork and collaboration amongst her colleagues.

2015 Rodel Exemplary Principal Semifinalist—Evelyn Garcia

Evelyn GarciaCongratulations to Mrs. Evelyn Garcia, Fowler Elementary School Principal, for being named a semifinalist in Rodel’s search for 2015 Exemplary Principals. She is deserving of this honor because of her outstanding leadership, student learning as demonstrated by data, her passion for working in a demanding community, and a strong recommendation from our superintendent.
